Along with a very successful show, Demna Gvasalia, the head designer and creator of Vetements was named Balenciaga’s newest creative director days after Alexander Wang’s final show for the house. Still an unfamiliar name in the mainstream, Gvasalia’s history resides as a senior designer for Margiela as well as Louis Vuitton.
Vetements SS16 leads us down a path of revived corporate, unisex clothing presenting a line meant to make men and women feel good in what they’re wearing. The rather androgynous theme of models in many shows this season added to the aesthetic of the brand magnifying the emphasis on gender fluidity. Thigh high boots and floral dresses created an underlying romantic feel to the street style demand that was present.
