In the past seasons we’ve seen Saint Laurent smoothly incorporate LA lifestyle into their inspiration – previously putting a heavy focus on the musicians of the bands The Garden and Cherry Glazerr – but never before like the SS16 collection. Model after model was a recognizable face from the LA scene alongside music from the fairly local beach pop band Swimmers.
Slimane pushed West Coast vibes showcasing distinct beach-grunge looks with bleached hair, beads, palm tree prints combined with undone edges and touches of glam rock classics such as leopard print and leather pants – a look that has been relevant in LA since I was alive.
Slimane also selected old works of Billy Al Bengston, a Venice, California native, as the art behind the invitations.
The show closed with psychedelic lights and YSL confetti as the models took their final walks.
