While a video game character might not be the most conventional candidate to model a haute couture collection, it does live up to the high demand and fast pace the fashion industry requires. Final Fantasy XIII’s protagonist and Japanese celebrity, Lightning, has everything Nicolas Ghesquière has been building upon with Louis Vuitton – Japanese aesthetics as seen in his latest collection, pink hair(!), and now an essence of a virtual dark underworld.
This isn’t the first time a digital model has been used to represent a collection. From Knola in Kenzo’s SS15 presentation to another appearance by Lightning in Prada’s 2012 summer campaign for Arena Homme Plus, one can only wonder: Are the expectations of models becoming so high that it’s becoming nearly impossible to live up to? We recently witnessed a line of disconnect from top creative directors due to the same issue and recognition from Paris that regulations need a healthy lifestyle amongst signed models. Maybe the time has come where art is imitating life.
